DSL (Digital Subscriber Line) is a technology for bringing high-bandwidth information to homes and small businesses over ordinary copper telephone lines and comes in various forms (ADSL, HDSL, RADSL, and VDSL). Assuming that your home or small business is close enough to a DSL capable central office, the xDSL variants we can offer you today are ADSL, SDSL and IDSL. The most common form of xDSL is ADSL (Assymetric Digital Subscriber Line). The majority of an ADSL bandwidth is dedicated to downloading with only a small portion of it allocated for uploading. This usually results in a 6:1 download to upload ratio.
The speeds that we can
offer today range from 768/128Kbps to 6/1Mbps. Our ADSL product requires an
existing Ameritech/SBC voice line which allows you to self-install the
service and avoid the traditional installation fees involved in dispatching a
field service tech to your location. Although ADSL is sufficient
for most businesses, there are some cases where there is a need for greater
upload bandwidth. This need might arise from inhouse web servers or intense
multimedia applications. Unlike ADSL, SDSL (Symmetric Digital Subscriber
Line) offers a balance between upload and download speeds that results in a
1:1 download to upload ratio. This allows SDSL to offer the same performance
as traditional T1 or fractional T1 service without the distance sensitive
price tag. |
